Global Industrial Company

GPI was approached by an incoming GM who was having issues with tight market conditions, declining profitability and industrial relations.

With help from GPI, the client was able to plan and establish goals and strategies that included the following actions;

* Complete a review of the business model with particular focus on service delivery and operational efficiency

* Identified an optimal operating structure, whereby smaller teams were created from a single larger Maintenance Unit

* Increased the proportion of contractors which allowed shifting of the cost base from fixed to variable

* Encouraged promotion from within, based on performance not tenure

* Key staff performance coaching

As a result of these activities, the client achieved the following outcomes;

* EBIT increased from less than 10% to 28% over 2-3 year period

* Smaller teams resulted in greater accountability and active competition between units

* A revitalised Maintenance Unit paved the way for similar changes within the Capital/Construction Unit

* A major competitor exited the market not long after the above changes were made
